About the Art Guitar

Each year at the Wildflower Art & Music Festival in Richardson, TX, an Art Guitar Program and Auction is held. Festival sponsors, local artists, celebrities, and sports figures are invited to enter a decorated guitar. Guitar entries, either electric or acoustic, can be transformed, painted, tiled, airbrushed or gilded in gold. The guitars are then put on display in the Eisemann Center and sold in a silent auction for the duration of the Festival. Proceeds from the auction benefit the NETWORK of Community Ministries and the fine art programs in the secondary level of the R.I.S.D. More information can be found at the Wildflower website.

In 2012, our own Judy Gottesman of The Old Firehouse Gallery, submitted her entry. Photos of this wonderful Art Guitar can be seen below.

The words on the side of the guitar say “Wear Your Heart•Pick Peace•Sing Your Song.” Judy says “It was the bright orange pick holder that set the tone for vivid color choices, which in turn lent themselves to the swirling designs of the 60's, and the emphasis on peace and love so often the focus of folk music then and now.”

Judy has created more of these works of art from various stringed instruments and sells them in the gallery. Since these take so long to make, you never know how many or few you might find in the gallery at any time.

If you own an old stringed instrument (it does not have to play) or know someone who is anxious to part with one, Judy would love to to have an opportunity to transform it into something beautiful. Please contact us at info@theoldfirehouse.net
